Decorating Celebs (part 2)

Just for fun, I thought I would take a few minutes to talk about another 5 celebs that I would love to see wearing some B. Accessorized pieces. Why do I think of these things? Because HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE? to have someone famous wearing something that I made? Holy buckets. If you’re going to dream… might as well dream big, right?

Okay, so let’s get down to it. In my last blog, I mentioned Zooey Deschanel, Carrie Underwood, Ree Drummond, Meryl Streep, and Courtney Cole. All super cool chicks.

Chalene Johnson is amazing. She is a motivational speaker, life coach, and fitness instructor all rolled into one. She is someone that is incredibly positive and uplifting, and I don’t even get the urge to punch her (not that I could… I could punch the tv screen, but that would hurt, and make for a very unhappy husband) I get to see her most mornings as she helps me start the day off right with one of her many Beachbody workouts. She really is amazing.

Ellen is kind of obvious. She totally tops my list of celebrities I would love to spend a day with. She is so funny and just seems to be an amazing person. It really comes across that she is a very kind person that has things she is passionate about and does something about them.

Maureen O’Hara. Good golly she is amazing. Even as a kid I knew she was one of the most stunning women in the world. I always felt she was classy, but could laugh at herself, too. Or that’s the impression I got from watching her movies. She is just amazing.

Who doesn’t love Tina Fey? She has made a successful career out of being a regular chick. I want to be her friend. I’m sure we could be besties. (I can’t believe I just used that word.)

P!nk is just so. darn. cool. Am I right? I love her jams, but I think SHE is just cool. I will never be even half as cool as she is. She makes being strong and powerful seem attainable and typical, which is where her coolness stems from, at least from my point of view. And she makes “edgy” pretty. Which is not always the case.

So there you have it, friends. Tell me… who would you pick to spend time with and/or make something for?

A Discount with a Purpose

I have a problem. A problem that I have been mulling over, considering, and pondering for a while now. But I’m finally getting to a point where I’m moving beyond said mulling.

What it comes down to is:

I lack focus.

Not so much on individual projects, but on style, medium, and technique. You know, those things that cause cohesiveness and make things look like they belong together. I am the queen of seeing a new (to me) technique and wanting to try it. Forget the 37 projects I have started or prepped or thought of. This is something NEW. Which means I must learn to do it.

All this leads to a mish-mash of jewelry styles, like:

Collage!

And it makes me wonder if I would sell more if people knew better what to expect from me.

Another side effect of this problem, and the lack of sales, is I have a LOT of inventory. I will probably re-purpose some of the pieces, but before I do… I want to give you all the chance to grab some pieces that you have had your eye on, and at a nice discounted price. (I’ve been meaning to do a holiday shopping sale anyway…)

Buy 1 item, get 10% off.

Buy 2, get 20% off.

Buy 3, get 30% off.

Buy 4 or more, and get 40% off your ENTIRE ORDER.

This sale is through Facebook ONLY. Simply comment on each picture that you wish to purchase, and PM me when you are ready to complete your order.

So, you get to buy gifts for yourself or someone else, and I get to move some inventory. Everybody wins. =)

***While I believe my inventory is up-to-date, there may be things that I have missed. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Friends (a non-jewelry post)

A few months ago… I made a decision. Here’s the shake-down:

Most people think of me as pretty outgoing and all that, but I’m really a chicken at heart. I tend to assume people would prefer to avoid me. Even family and my closest friends. So this decision, while it may seem small, was actually a pretty big deal. And I still battle with myself. Every. Time.

Do any of you ever have someone, usually from your past, that pops into your head? Just a random memory or thought about that person? Well, I sure do. I think it comes from having too much time on my hands…

A few months ago I had one of those moments. So I decided that maybe there was a reason I was thinking of that random person at that moment, so maybe I should DO something about it. Crazy, right? I started sending a quick “Hi, how ya doin’?” message when I had the chnace. And thanks to the wonderful world of Facebook, I can do it without being super-intrusive (read:passive-aggressive)

It’s kind of awesome. I have had conversations with people that I would have missed out on otherwise. It doesn’t inspire huge transformations in my friendships with these people, some of which are really just acquaintances. But it does what Facebook is intended to do (more or less) It re-connects me with people. I get to catch up with them, learn a little bit about how they are, right now in this moment in their life.

I wish more people would listen to that inner voice telling them to reach out to someone (like me!). There have been a few times that the person I reached out to had really needed to be contacted that day. They needed to know someone was thinking about them, that they are significant. And that feels really good for both of our hearts. So consider that the person you are thinking of today might really need you to just say hello.

Which reminds me… I need to write more letters. That’s even BETTER. Who doesn’t love snail mail?

Talk to you soon, friends. (hint hint)

PS: I apologize for this interruption in the regular jewelry-focused programming. I know you all are so enthralled by my *cough* regular and frequent *cough*cough* posts, but I hope you don’t mind this little detour.

Much love, Friends, much love.

Support Systems

We all need various support systems, right? Church, family, friends, work friends, fellow parents, etc. are all support systems that we need.

Today, I’d like to tell you a bit about my jewelry support system. More specifically, a lady named Brenda Sue.

Let me tell ya… this lady is amazing. Not only does she create AMAZING Art Jewelry, but she provides amazing resources, advice, and information to everyone interested in making jewelry. She has a website filled with some of the coolest findings and components you will find in the US. And they are MADE in the US. Top it off with extremely reasonable prices for those US made jewelry supplies, and you’ve got yourself a winner. You can find her on Etsy, too.

She created a group on Facebook as a place for all jewelry makers, whether they use her components or not, where they can show off their pieces, ask questions, and just get all of the moral support they need. It is a pretty amazing community. And boy howdy are there some amazing artisans on there. You’ll see stringing, bead weaving, wire work, metal smithing, collage, and everything in between. She welcomes everyone. She’ll even let you pester her with questions. Not that I know from experience or anything… 😉

And above and beyond all of this, she offers FREE tutorials and videos on youtube. Yes. That’s right. This super-experienced and successful jewelry artist will teach you. FOR FREE. She is constantly trying new products and techniques, and she passes on what she learns. And she’s really funny. Which is a huge bonus.

So, basically, she’s a kind, generous, experienced, thoughtful, sweet, hilarious, skilled, and fabulous lady with a killer website filled with cool stuff and a youtube channel that teaches you just about everything you could possibly want to learn about jewelry making.

Check her out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Oh, and she sends candy.

Here’s one of my fav videos. Thanks to B’Sue, I LOVE ice resin. It’s so fun!

Being Descriptive

I can be descriptive when the mood strikes. I actually enjoy it most of the time. But I have discovered that I do NOT enjoy describing my jewelry on Etsy. Or naming every. single, piece. for that matter. So I came to a conclusion. For better or worse, I decided to use an alternative method for describing things. I’m not even sure you could call it a “description” but it works for me. I’m a born smart aleck. Just ask my mother.

Most of what I make is pretty darn obvious as to what it is. Not sure? Do that crazy thing called asking. But if you want to know if that’s sterling silver or real turquoise? Check the price. Because believe me… it will be reflected in the price if I’m using that caliber of materials.

But I figure… for every person that won’t buy from me because of it, another one WILL. Maybe. I hope.

I gotta be me.

Otherwise, I think my prices would go up due to the amount of time it takes to come up with new ways to describe a pair of earrings. By a LOT. I have better things to do with my time. Like scan pinterest. Or crush some candy on Facebook. You know… productive things like that. 😉

Peace out, y’all.

Exploring New Territory

I received an amazing gift this Christmas. A gift card that will allow me to make some purchases that I have been dreaming of for more than two years now. I have wanted to try my hand at metal smithing, but it requires a LOT of tools and other supplies. I have been grabbing a tool here and there when I can, but it’s a slow process. This gift card will really speed things up.

I am so excited, but also really nervous.

The bad side of reachable dreams and goals is that, at some point, you run out of reasons to not start the journey you have been reaching for. And if you are a chicken like me, that’s a real problem. Everything is easier when you can’t start, but they get a whole lot more difficult when the obstacles are gone.

So… I am on the verge of eliminating my obstacles.

Wish me luck. I’m going to need it.

(Or even better, shop B. Accessorized and help speed up the process even more)
